Here at Laminin, we like to update our clients every so often with the exciting new features and improvements in the latest M-Files releases. Check out some of the most important below!
M-Files Web & Desktop
Let’s start with the biggest news:

- One of the most significant recent improvements is that both M-Files Desktop and M-Files Web now have duplicate detection built in. When you add new files, the software will warn you about potential duplicates. If you add the file anyway, the two documents will be linked in the “relationships” section.
- One of the most-requested updates has arrived: view creation. Users can now create their own views. M-Files is still working on improving and perfecting this feature, so expect more improvements to come.
- A great new feature in both Web and Desktop is version history: you can now see all past versions of an object and restore an older version if needed.
But wait, there’s more!
- Accidentally deleting a crucial document is a terrifying feeling. Thankfully, there is a new “undelete” option in the context menu in both the Web and Desktop environments.
- The newest version of the Compliance Kit is available for the new Desktop and Web environments.
- The “recent” tab got an upgrade: it now includes not just documents that have been edited but also objects that have been accessed. This feature is currently only in Web but is expected to reach Desktop soon.
- Now, those users with read-only licenses can create links to documents.
- The “history view” just got a lot more organized. You can now use columns to sort information—and your M-Files software will remember what columns each user prefers so you don’t have to duplicate work.
- For those with the M-Files Business platform, the Aino Metadata vault application is now automatically installed (but disabled by default). This application is an AI-powered feature that suggests metadata for different files.
- M-Files has automated metadata even further; automatically created metadata suggestions are now usually approved automatically instead of a user having to approve each suggestion manually.
- This may not seem like much, but it’ll make your life easier: users can now drag and drop both views and documents into Windows File Explorer as well as other applications like Microsoft Outlook.
- This is more of a behind-the-scenes update, but M-Files has fully transitioned their cloud provider from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to Microsoft Azure Cloud. All accounts from the AWS environment have been migrated to an Azure environment. Some domain names have also changed accordingly.
- Another adjacent update may help users in a different way: the M-Files Help Center now has an AI “assistant” that can surface answers easily and provide links to sources that back up its answers. Users can even ask follow-up questions to get more information. (Note: this AI chatbot is not connected to M-Files Aino.)
M-Files for Outlook Pro
- The M-Files for Outlook Pro add-in can now be used with both Outlook for Mac as well as Classic Outlook.
- To increase automation within your email filing, you can enable automatic reply-filing for conversations.
- You can also populate M-Files properties with email header values such as “to,” “from,” and “cc.”
- This add-in now includes value list filtering for your metadata sets.
M-Files Hubshare
- You can now add distinction to an object with or without files.
- Widget organization in the dashboard module has been streamlined and improved.
- The popular “Useful Link” widget is now supported in the export/import packages.
