The Most Important M-Files Updates in 2024 (So Far)

Although M-Files is already a leader in the field of document management, they aren’t content to rest on their laurels. Instead, the M-Files team is always improving the product. They take user feedback into account, always trying to create a solution for problems that users may face.

In this blog, we’ll summarize the most important

2024 M-Files Updates

M-Files updates so far this year. The most important of these updates may be the new M-Files visual identity, which applies to every aspect of the software.

M-Files Updates

  • New Visual Interface: The M-Files new visual interface updates the software across M-Files Web, Desktop, Hubshare, Ment, and Mobile. This cohesive design features sleek, modern visuals and creates an intuitive user experience through common elements and patterns. This interface also includes improved accessibility features such as improved color contrast.
• Sharing Options: The sharing options in M-Files desktop have been changed and moved. Some features have been removed. The “Send as PDF by Email” sharing option was briefly discontinued but was reinstated after user feedback.
  • AI-Enabled Search: In M-Files Web, the search bar will show you suggested searches as you type.
  • Improved Permissions: In M-Files Web, users now have greater control over object permissions. You can enable or disable an object’s automatic permissions and modify its named access control list.
  • Microsoft Teams Authentication: In M-Files admin, you can configure a separate authentication scope just for the Teams add-in alone. You can create this scope automatically through the “create scope” button on the dashboard of the plugin.
  • Increased Integration with Microsoft Office: You can now insert M-Files properties into Office files. PowerPoint files can now receive automatic metadata updates through the M-Files API.
  • Vault Connections through QR Codes: It’s now possible to add a vault connection to M-Files Mobile through a QR code shown in M-Files Web or Desktop.

M-Files Hubshare Updates

  • New Visual Interface: Just like the other M-Files products, M-Files Hubshare has a new unified visual identity.
  • Linked Hub Templates and Hubs: Every hub created from a template on new versions of Hubshare will be intrinsically linked to that template. This facilitates easy updates of the template, among other user experience improvements.
  • Authentication Updates: You can now authenticate into Hubshare through an external identity provider (such as Azure, Okta, etc.).
  • Bulk Download in Views: You can now download an entire view structure or a specific grouping level as a zip file. This allows you to easily share large document groups while preserving folder structure.
  • Placeholder Images: There are now placeholder images that appear when there is no data available or when an error occurs in a widget.
  • Re-Inviting a Deleted User: You can now re-invite a deleted user into M-Files Hubshare. Note that a recreated account will need its access to hubs re-added as well.
  • Access Counters Per Month: On the “hub activity” page, you can now see the number of hub accesses per month.
  • Action Buttons Relocated: Action buttons (such as export, activity, and add file) are now housed in a contextual menu on the top right of smaller widgets.
  • Prefilling IP Address: Some metadata can now be prefilled with the user’s IP address.
