Across many industries, work gets lighter during the summer. September brings with it a sense of renewal and re-engagement! With that in mind, we’d like to give you a quick summary of the important changes and updates that the M-Files team has made this summer—just in case you missed these new features over the last few months—and introduce you to the All-New M-Files Desktop Experience.
M-Files Web Updates
M-Files Web has undergone several important updates:
- Link redirects: When the classic M-Files Web is disabled, existing collection members’ links will automatically redirect to the current version.
- Check-in requests: A user who has checked out an object can now get a check-in request by email.
- New view: M-Files Web now has the option to view all Assigned and Checked Out objects in one tab.
- Permissions: Here’s a big one: You can now manually set customized permissions for an object. These manual permissions will override the object’s predefined permissions settings (NACL).
M-Files Desktop Updates
The M-Files team also made changes to their Desktop software:
- Search in current view: Users can now set the “search in current view” option as default for any temporary built-in views (created using the “Browse Relationships” feature). The setting is simple—they can easily switch this option on or off from the Filters tab. In order to enable this setting, navigate to M-Files Admin and follow this path: Configuration > Client > Desktop > Search > Search Bar > Default Search Options.
M-Files Hubshare Updates
Hubshare wasn’t left behind! Here are its updates:
- User experience: There is a new look and feel to the settings pages, allowing for more user-friendly and intuitive navigation and user experience. In addition, the login page configuration for single-tenant servers is now completely customizable. Hubshare used to have its own file extension icons, but it will now use the standard M-Files icons in the M-Files connected widgets. Lastly, customer branding has now returned to notification emails, so all the emails your clients see from Hubshare will have your logo and branding on them.
- Wording: The word “Extension” has been replaced everywhere with “M-Files Integration” in order to be more descriptive and specific. This change also supports M-Files’ goal of deprecating standalone Hubshare installations (instead encouraging joint M-Files and Hubshare use).
- Widgets: There have been many updates to widgets lately. In the first place, a new widget wizard has appeared! Through its “magic,” you can more easily use M-Files connected widgets. Charts, a new type of M-Files connected widgets, has made its debut. Charts creates visualization widgets to support existing widgets that list documents or objects. New visualization methods are being added. In M-Files widgets, document/object metadata can be edited. Each editable metadata point is now highlighted and clickable.
- Languages: Hubshare now supports vault and metadata structures with multiple languages.
- Security: Users must verify their identity with their passwords before any two-factor authentication deactivation or reset. Also, an administrator can now customize their SSO timeout duration.
- API: There is a new API route available to export end-users’ activities in Hubshare in the M-Files connected widgets. This route allows you to generate a consolidated file containing all activities in a hub each day. It can also automatically start a process when a specific user downloads a document.
- Dates: Hub administrators can now configure default date formatting as absolute (8/22/24) or relative (3 days ago). Of course, this can still be edited on a user-by-user basis.
