For many businesses, summer is a time to take a breath, reset, and implement improvements within their systems. M-Files is no exception! In this blog, we’ll go over the new features of M-Files deployed over the last couple of months. Why not take the time to learn something new about your M-Files implementation? There’s always a new step towards efficiency waiting to be taken.
Of course, the biggest M-Files news is their newest partnership with Microsoft! In this blog, we’ll cover other—but still important! —changes and updates to the M-Files software.
It’s important to note that M-Files is focusing nearly all its development efforts on the new M-Files Desktop. Transitioning to the new system requires the gRPC protocol (enabled by default in cloud implementations, but not on-premises implementations). If your company needs to make the switch, we’re here to help.
M-Files Updates
Let’s start off with the most recent updates to M-Files itself.
- Visual workflows: Figuring out where a particular document is in an automated workflow just got easier. Within the Metadata Card, there is now a visual depiction of the workflow that the document is involved in. It’ll show you what steps have been taken and whose approval or action is needed next.
- Global search: The search bar on the Desktop home screen can now search all vaults that you’re logged into. This unified search will save time and mitigate frustration when you’re looking for a particular document!
- Co-authoring: Co-authoring on documents just got easier—users can now co-author existing Office documents as well as multi-file documents.
- Markdown text in Aino: Aino can now interpret and correctly display markdown language, as necessary.
- Easier access to Vaults: A user’s list of Vaults is now shown as a list of widgets on their homepage. They can even log in right from the widget.
- Improved metadata search: Users can access an improved metadata search by filtering object types with tags, saving search filters as a view, and selecting multiple items in dropdown menus.
- CSV export: In M-Files Desktop, you can now export metadata for a selected object or view through the context menu.
- Create any object type: Users can now create any object they’d like from the context menu.
- Version history for document collections: Not only does each document have version history, but now each document collection also has version history, improving compliance across the board.
M-Files Hubshare Updates
In addition to the main M-Files updates, developers have also been working on improvements to M-Files Hubshare.
- Export/import improvements: The development team has made many improvements to the export/import feature in Hubshare, including streamlining how new widgets, groups, and useful links function within the process.
- Managing workflow states: Users can now manage workflow states and transitions more easily while still maintaining secure permissions to specific objects and workflows.
- Empty values: Widget charts will now show empty values instead of ignoring them, allowing for more accurate and comprehensive data representation.
