A large part of information that we get and use has the potential of having a negative impact.
It it because the information itself is bad? If you learn today that you business does not have enough cash to make all the payments this month, does it mean the information is bad or negative? The obvious answer is that the information is hugely powerful and has the potential to drive severe consequences, but in itself, the information is not bad. What you do with the information and how you use it will determine the outcome.
On the other hand, if your GPS navigator has the wrong information and took you to the wrong location then your anger will be taken out on the company that is responsible for this unreliable information. Wrong or incomplete information could have unexpected and negative consequences.
Powerful information is therefore not because it is perceived as comfortable and upbeat, but because it is relevant and correct, the best information available.
